How to dress your newborn baby?
Should I put a hat on him at night? He only has a pair of socks on, are his feet sure they won't get cold? What detergent should I use to wash his clothes? These are just a few of the many questions that parents face, especially when it's their first child. Below you can find tips, tricks and certain "rules" for dressing your baby correctly.
There is a popular saying that it is not advisable to buy baby clothes before the baby is born. Like many such superstitions, this one is also quite divisive among parents. After all, preparing for the arrival of a baby is so magical that few expectant mothers can say no to shopping in advance. Furthermore, after giving birth, you may not have the time and patience to go shopping and get the necessary things. The emphasis is therefore on moderation and quality, so as not to go overboard and pay attention to the quality of the clothes.

What mistakes are possible when dressing newborn babies?
Be sure to avoid the following:
- Pants – avoid, at least for the first six weeks of your baby’s life. The elastic in pants can irritate the belly button area.
- Bodysuits with narrow necks – choose one with snaps or buttons so that it doesn't interfere with your baby's soft head.
- Cords, ties – anything that can get wrapped around your neck.
- Sequins – swallowable pebbles, decorations on clothes.
- Also, be careful not to dress him too thickly. Even if he is very small, not at all, as you are not preparing him for a hike to the “North Pole”. If he sweats through his clothes, he may get heat rash and catch a cold easily. However, we tend to be more afraid of being underdressed, and of course this should also be avoided.
Remember that:
- In the first months of life, your baby cannot regulate his body temperature on his own, so it is important that you check him from time to time. But it is not his feet or hands that will give him away, but his back and neck. Put your hand on the back of his head: if it is wet, if he is sweating, then take off a layer of clothes. If he is cold, then put another one on. Your baby feels comfortable when the back of his head is pleasantly warm.
- You don't have to go overboard, but he should always wear one more layer of clothes than you. Of course, there is an exception here: a full-term, mature baby doesn't need to wear two layers of clothes in the summer heat, above 25 degrees, one is enough. But be aware that if you take him to the shade, his temperature may be different, and a blanket may be needed.
Tricks to make everything a little easier
- Choose natural materials that allow your skin to breathe and do not cause allergies. For example, bamboo clothes are cooling in hot weather and warming in cold weather.
- While dressing your little one, talk to him calmly, sing songs, and tell him stories. This way, the whole “operation” will be a pleasant pastime for both of you.
- Measure the number of clothes you have by quality, not quantity! Your baby grows quickly, and you may end up with clothes in your closet that you never had a chance to put on. You're better off with fewer, but skin-friendly and soft baby clothes that will make your little one feel comfortable and calmer.
What makes clothes made of bamboo a great choice?
Have you ever heard of clothes that can be worn in both winter and summer? If not, then get to know our clothes made of bamboo material , which will quickly become your favorite due to their extra softness. Bamboo has heat-regulating properties, keeping your little one cool in the summer and perfectly warm in the winter.

Not only is bamboo clothing popular for this reason, it also has extremely good breathability. This ensures a peaceful sleep, as it does not irritate the baby's skin. All our bamboo products are environmentally friendly, provide air circulation, and are also excellent for babies with skin problems.
As mentioned above, bamboo clothing helps regulate temperature, so it can be worn all year round. But of course, we have to adapt to different aspects in different seasons, let's take a look at these:
Dressing a newborn baby in winter
In winter, it is worth reaching 22-24 degrees in the apartment. In such cases, a bodysuit + kicker is sufficient indoors (or socks if the kicker is without a foot). Use a hat indoors too : a thread cap is suitable for this purpose. The main thing is that it covers the ears and forehead. Well-ventilated, natural material is also very important here, as babies' scalps are particularly sensitive and can be prone to dirt.
Of course, he will need the same things as you when he is outside: a sweater, a warm, water-repellent overall that replaces a coat, and a warm hat that covers the head and forehead. We don't recommend a scarf, as it can wrap around the neck too much. But you can buy turtleneck scarves that you just need to wrap your baby in. This way, you don't have to wrap them up, and they keep you warm from all sides.

Don't forget warm gloves and a blanket. If you've arrived in a heated room, for example, if you've gone to the store, a blanket is definitely useful, as you can easily remove your baby from it, so you can quickly remove a layer. This way, he won't get too hot. If you're carrying a baby, unbutton the jacket with the carrier at this time, or take off the blanket with the carrier.
You should also avoid getting your baby's winter clothes on when you've already dressed him, but you still need to put on your coat and shoes. Organize things so that you have to wait in the apartment for a minimum of time to get dressed: have everything ready first, so that you really only have to put on the coat and shoes quickly. And only put the blanket on your baby just before you step out the door into the cold.
Dressing a newborn in autumn and spring
The hardest part is during these two seasons, as the weather is changeable and can change dramatically within a day. It is possible to dress in autumnal or almost wintery clothes in the morning, and in the afternoon the sun is already shining brightly.
The only way to adapt to this is to prepare with several, but not too thick, layers, such as several layers of blankets, suitable, easily removable overalls, and even hats of two different thicknesses: so unfortunately we have to carry around unnecessary clothing with us.
Remember that UV radiation can be strong even on sunny days in spring, so make sure you wear sunscreen and a properly protective hat !
What clothes should we give the baby in summer?
Summer is easier in that you don't have to wrap babies in many layers of clothes (who in most cases don't like to dress up anyway...).
Here you need to pay attention that if you suddenly find yourself in a shady or air-conditioned place, you need to put on an extra layer. A blanket is also a good solution for this, which you just need to quickly put on the baby when they arrive, for example, at a refrigerated store.
As we mentioned above: in hot weather, two layers of clothing are not necessarily necessary if the baby was born on time and everything is fine with him from a health perspective. For newborn babies, we should also use a hat in the summer, even a small draft can be a problem for them, and it is also important for UV protection .
Dressing carried babies
If you're carrying your baby, keep in mind that the baby carrier is an extra layer, and your body will also keep your baby warm. So in the summer heat, one layer of clothing is enough for your baby, but if you take your baby out of the carrier, be prepared to probably need an extra layer.
Always have a change of clothes, or even more, with you, because babies who are carried are more likely to sweat in the summer. So you may need a change of clothes.

In cold weather, baby carriers are a great solution, as are baby jackets that keep you both warm. In variable weather, these situations may be a little easier to handle: you can more easily feel your baby's warmth while carrying them. You can easily vary baby carriers, so you don't have to dress your little one all the time.
What you should definitely pay attention to when carrying: since when carried correctly, the baby's knees are slightly pulled up, footed baby carriers can be tight at the foot, which can be uncomfortable for the baby. Therefore , in this case, we recommend the footless jumpsuit + socks combination .
