What clothes should we dress our child in to sleep in a 20 degree room?
According to a representative survey, most of us in Hungary sleep in bedrooms at 20 degrees. This is the temperature we consider comfortable and economical.
Typically, northern people sleep in colder rooms. For us, anything below 18 degrees wouldn't be very comfortable.
To ensure your child has a restful sleep, there are several things to consider. We now recommend the right clothing for sleeping in a 20-degree room. The comfort your child feels while sleeping affects the quality of their rest and development. Because we want them to sleep peacefully at night.

A room temperature of 20 degrees is among the most optimal values.
In our climate, a room temperature of 20-22 degrees Celsius is the most ideal for our children to sleep. This does not mean that a difference of 1-2 degrees would be a problem. How someone feels about the temperature and what they consider comfortable is an individual characteristic for children, just like for adults.
Over time, we will get to know our child's heat needs and experience whether they tend to be colder or warmer. The recommendations can be a good help, but if your child's needs differ, dress them for sleep accordingly.
Our body's thermoregulation is an important physiological function.
In fact, it is one of the most important. Just think about how our body produces heat through cellular metabolism and releases heat through evaporation and thermal radiation. At the same time, it also reacts to the often extreme effects of the environment.
The bodies of newborns and premature babies cannot yet counteract these external influences. That is why we must be careful not to let them get cold or have a fever.
Premature babies are born with low body temperatures, which poses risks, which is why an optimal incubator environment is needed, among other things, where their body temperature can be regulated.

Babies sweat less, their bodies produce more heat, and they retain more heat. This makes them overheat more easily, and we may even notice rashes on them.

Dressing newborns for sleep
Our clothing recommendations below take into account whether you are dealing with a newborn or a baby who is already a few months old. In the first few weeks, dress your baby in an extra light layer to avoid getting cold.
It is also a good idea to check from time to time whether your child is hot or cold. This can be easily done by feeling the back of their neck and back. What do you feel? Is their skin too hot, is their skin damp, or is their back cold? If you do not feel any of this, then your child is dressed appropriately.
Room temperature may fluctuate
Depending on the type of heating, the temperature in the apartment and rooms may vary during the night. The greatest movement is perhaps in the case of mixed-fuel boilers, but the heat from the central heating and opening windows can also cause fluctuations.
It's good to have the thermometer in the baby's room, next to the bed, so we can always see how the temperature is developing and dress the child appropriately. A thermometer placed in another room will not show the real value, there can be a difference of up to 2-3 degrees between two rooms in the apartment.
Human body temperature also changes at night
If the temperature in the room weren't enough, we can also experience fluctuations in body temperature while sleeping. There is a rhythm to sleep that becomes really regular from the age of 3 months. When falling asleep, the body cools down in the evening hours and warms up at dawn.
LiaaBébé's recommendation for baby clothes for sleeping in a room with a temperature of 20 degrees
First variation
- Add a short-sleeved bodysuit to the diaper. This will keep your baby warm, similar to an athlete. You can find your favorites in many colors and patterns. They are soft, stretchy, and don't worry, they won't stretch out!
- By adding a jumpsuit to the bodysuit, you can dress your baby in a nice warm outfit. To make dressing them up a breeze, we make all our jumpsuits with a zipper. Look at the wonderful bright colors we chose for these beautiful outfits!
- Our sleeping bags are available in several thicknesses. For the bodysuit+jumpsuit variation, a thinner sleeping bag with a 1.5 TOG marking is also suitable. If your child moves around a lot, you can also choose a toddler sleeping bag for them!
Second variation
- We have a large selection of long-sleeved bodysuits . If you combine them with a warm, winter sleeping bag, they can be enough on their own. Choose from many beautiful, bright colored clothes!
- When sleeping in a winter sleeping bag made with 2.5 TOG warm filling, your child won't be cold even with a long-sleeved bodysuit. To make it easier for them to move around after sleep, you can also choose a toddler sleeping bag !
Third variation – if the child can already cover himself/herself
- He probably already enjoys wearing two-piece pajamas . Let him enjoy the beautiful patterned pieces!
- A tank top or a thinner, soft T-shirt is recommended under your pajamas to keep you warm even in 20 degrees.
Why is it good to use a sleeping bag?
Babies who are moving around at night will almost certainly kick their blankets off. However, they cannot pull them back. If we are sleeping and don't notice that our child has been covered up for even 2-3 hours, he or she may be cold all night.
A safe sleeping bag is great because it keeps your baby warm during the night while keeping them comfortable. We won't have to wake up every half hour or so because we're worried that they might be cold and need to cover them up. The little one will sleep more soundly, and so will we.
What temperature-related problems can we solve with LiaaBébé clothes?
- The thermoregulating properties of bamboo fiber help the baby's own regulation ability: it can balance the temperature fluctuations of the home and the body at night. It cools in hot weather and warms in cold weather. This way, the baby cannot overheat and sweat, but it will not be cold either.
- Its extra elastic material prevents your little one from waking up at night because they can't move in tight or tight clothes. Do you know the picture when your child's legs are completely pulled up in loose clothes when they wake up, and since they couldn't stretch them back because they got caught, they stayed that way until they woke up? Thanks to the body-hugging cut of LiaaBébé clothes, this can't happen.

- If your child is prone to eczema, rashes, or skin allergies, we highly recommend our clothes made from bamboo fiber.
