Let's make a carnival costume simply, at home!

It's never too early to start brainstorming if your little one is going to a carnival at daycare, preschool, or school. Little ones often come up with ready-made plans, but these ideas can change every couple of days. That's why you might need our help to create the most appropriate costume.

If your child is preparing for their first carnival party, they may not have any memories of what this celebration means. It's good to come up with a costume for them that interests them, perhaps their favorite fairy tale character, fairy tale element, or some other desire. This way, they can best identify with their role during the party.

Let's make a costume at home!

You can buy very nice costumes in stores, but in this article we would like to give you ideas if you are planning to make your child's masquerade yourself. Making costumes at home is a great joy and experience for the family, in which everyone can be involved. Dads are eager to make boys' costumes, especially if they require special assembly techniques. Big brothers, on the other hand, are good at decorations, aesthetics are their thing.

A handmade costume is a unique, true masterpiece, giving the whole family a sense of achievement and beautiful memories. LiaaBébé's infant and toddler clothes can perfectly match a charming carnival costume, because they are available in wonderful, unique colors, including dinosaur patterns! We have brought you costume tips that you can make at home in a way that will not damage the jumpsuit or pajamas used for it, so they can be used after the carnival too!

We will help you choose a costume!

Don't worry if you don't have any ideas! We'll go through a few aspects and look at what might be the most ideal for your child.

  • Do you have a favorite character, superhero, animal, or theme?
  • Is the costume made for a girl or a boy? There are specifically girly and boyish ones, but there are also those that are universal, such as clowns or animals. If your child is bothered by the fact that he thinks his costume has a girly or boyish feel, then discuss this with him so that he doesn't feel uncomfortable about it. One example is a cat, which is more of a girly character.
  • Would he/she also like to participate in making the costume? If so, consider that he/she can also take part in the creative process!
  • If friends or siblings can relate to the theme of our costume, we can cooperate with them to make the styles match each other as much as possible. Such a joint dressing-up could be a team of fairy tale heroes or the characters of a fairy tale.
  • Would we like to continue using certain parts of the costume, such as the jumpsuit or pajamas, after Carnival?
  • What costs are we planning for?
  • Give hints and let the child choose! He feels what he wants to show the others and whose role he wants to play.

What is a good carnival costume?

  • Comfortable to wear throughout the entire party. Not tight, does not restrict movement, and is not irritating (e.g. prickly)
  • Made from skin-friendly materials
  • Appropriate for the occasion. Don't make it too scary, scary, because we are among children!
  • Suitable for indoor temperatures. If you are planning an outdoor carnival, there should be room under the costume for layering.
  • If the child wears it for a longer period of time, for example, because they play in it all day, it should be easy for them to take it off and put it on, for example when using the bathroom.
  • It has a definite character. A child cannot adequately identify with costumes that do not mean much to them.

What costumes can we come up with using jumpsuits and pajamas?

We think all of the most popular costumes can be made from these clothes without having to sew or glue them on. If you are making a clown, choose the most vibrant color for the clothes! Like the Chili Red color of the red leggings, or the  Purple Orchid pajamas. Add all accessories to the child separately: hat, colorful scarf, wig.

Little girls love angelic, spring fairy costumes.

Little girls love to pretend to be princesses. In their case, it's incredibly easy to create a really showy outfit. If you choose a white or off-white jumpsuit as a base, your little one can become an angel, or if you choose floral-patterned pajamas or jumpsuit, you can become a spring fairy.

We can make a paper dinosaur headdress for little boys for their costume

Little boys still love dinosaurs to this day! Among LiaaBébé's jumpsuits, you can find dinosaur-patterned pieces in both girly and boyish colors! You can also choose a yellow dinosaur pattern! If you make a headdress or mask and some paws, your child can become a truly stylish Tyrannosaurus.

You can also dress up as a hero or heroine, all you need is a French Blue jumpsuit , a mask and a nice, bright colored cape. For a cat costume, choose white or brown, and paint your face with face paint! All you need is a tail and two ears!

Elf costume for girls and boys in red and green colors

We have a really nice star patterned pajamas that can be used as a basis for a Queen of the Night or Snow Queen costume. If you combine a Jolly Green and a red pajamas , you can make a sweet little elf costume with some matching accessories. What's more, if you have twins, they can wear the two colored pajamas in opposite directions to their elf costumes!

What tools will you need to make a costume?

Depending on the design you choose, you may need scissors, glue for various materials, fabrics, papers, crepe paper, cardboard, paint, stickers, ribbons, and other decorations. We recommend that you plan exactly what materials you will use to make the costume before shopping, so you can avoid buying unnecessary supplies!

Finally, some children's costume ideas

The kitty costume is popular with little girls.

  • Classic fairy tale characters: princesses, queens, Cinderella, Snow White, Belle, Elsa, Ariel
  • Superheroes: Spider-Man, Batman, Wonder Woman, Supergirl
  • Animals: cat, dog, lion, bunny, butterfly, etc.
  • Modern pop culture characters: Harry Potter, Jedi Knights, Marvel heroes, Minions
  • Traditional and historical costumes: knight, pirate, cowboy, Indian
  • Historical figures: king, queen, court lady, Roman soldier, Viking
  • Folk costumes: Hungarian hussar, folk dancer
  • Magical creatures: fairy, witch, wizard, dragon, unicorn, elf
  • Occupations: police officer, firefighter, doctor, nurse, teacher, pilot, chef, soldier

When choosing a costume, the child's imagination and desire should always be the decisive factor, as he will be the one who will put himself in the shoes of the given character, so it is important that he can properly identify with it, feel it, and be close to it. It is a good idea - if the child has no ideas - for the parent to select a few possible ideas based on his interests and ask which one he would like to choose from them.

We wish you a pleasant time together and good creativity!
